A  visit to the Statue of Liberty is an inspiring experience for both americans and immigrants. It was a gift from the French people to commemorate the hundredth of the United States, since France had helped the American colonies gain their independence from England during the Revolutionary War. For the many immigrants who come to the United States through New York, the Statue of Liberty, holding up her torch, symbolizes a welcome to a land of freedom and possibilities for a better life
